All people in today’s world have differing experiences, conduct their lives within the framework of differing religions and world views, and pursue differing paths. However, the path to globalization is engendering an increasing number of reciprocal and intersecting commonalities. In order to understand the reciprocal and evolving relationships between cultures and nations, we need more cross-
cultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation.
However, inasmuch as this cannot be achieved by governments alone, it is our responsibility as citizens to strengthen this key role of the not for profit sector.
In order to avoid an uniformized humanity, cultures should endeavor to learn how to understand their own nature, as reflected by other cultures. This can be done by, on one hand, identifying commonalities between individuals, peoples and cultures; and on the other hand by ferreting out and calling into question divisive elements in this regard. Concerning ourselves with such divisive elements will enable us to develop a new relationship with each other.
In the final analysis, in the 21st century we need principles and guidelines that obviate the need for global military conflicts and conflicts engendered by dependency and that prevent such conflicts
from occurring. But this can only be achieved if we enlarge the scope of our conceptual framework.
Civilisations Matter will be an organization which, in partnership with like minded, independent, and democratically oriented organizations that are striving for global accountability, will hold symposiums, conferences, and dialogical lectures, will carry out research, and will develop and support projects in various parts of the world. Our efforts will be aimed at various representatives in the social and political realms such as members of the business, academic, public relations and artistic communities who also engage in future oriented dialogue.
